Empire's COO Seen as Strong Candidate for Head Role -- Market Talk

1215 ET - Empire's COO Pierre St-Laurent is a likely candidate to take over as the grocery giant's head, according to TD Cowen's Michael Van Aelst. In a report, he says that Medline's decision to retire doesn't come as a surprise, unlike its CFO's retirement announcement in March. While turnover of the two top positions in a relatively short period of time could be cause for minor concern, "were Mr. St-Laurent (who we view as a strong operator) to become CEO, it would provide continuity." Medline will stay in the role for another year, which "gives him time to overlap with the new CFO," and time to adjust to the leadership changes. (adriano.marchese@wsj.com)
