BP (BP) and partner Kosmos Energy (KOS) said Thursday that the first cargo of liquefied natural gas from the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim project, offshore Mauritania and Senegal, has been safely loaded.

The shipment was transferred to the "British Sponsor" LNG carrier from Golar LNG's (GLNG) floating vessel.

This triggers a milestone bonus payment to Golar under the terms an August 2024 agreement. Commissioning remains on track for a Q2 commercial operations date, Golar said.

The first cargo lifting is when Kosmos and its partners begin to recognize revenue, the company said. A second LNG carrier is waiting near the hub terminal, Kosmos said.

Kosmos shares were up 6% in recent premarket activity, while BP rose 1.2%.
