Microsoft-backed (MSFT) OpenAI, along with SoftBank, is exploring the possibility of investing in the UK as part of the $500 billion Stargate AI infrastructure initiative, The Financial Times reported Thursday, citing people familiar with the matter.

OpenAI has identified the UK as one of its key markets outside the US, while Stargate's initial operations will exclusively support OpenAI, the report said.

Stargate is currently focused on building AI infrastructure within the US, with $100 billion already allocated and a data center under construction in Texas, The report added.

Microsoft, OpenAI, and SoftBank did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
