Nvidia (NVDA) did not inform some of its major customers in China about the new restrictions placed by the US government on exports of its H20 artificial intelligence chip, Reuters reported Wednesday, citing two sources familiar with the matter.

The company said Tuesday that the US Commerce Department told them April 9 it will issue new licensing requirements for exports of its H20 chips and equivalents to China, according to the report.

Some of the company's customers in China, as well as Nvidia's China sales team, did not appear to be informed about the new restrictions, the sources told the news outlet.

Nvidia had secured $18 billion of orders for the chip since the start of the year, one of the sources told Reuters.

The company said it would a $5.5 billion charge on the export restrictions, according to a separate report from Reuters.

Nvidia did not immediately reply to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
