Health-care companies rose sharply as traders rotated into defensive sectors. Kidney-care firm DaVita said its operations were impeded by a recent ransomware attack.

Drug giant Pfizer halted development of its experimental weight-loss pill, as the pharmaceutical company struggles to find a follow-up to its success in the Covid-19 era.

Novo Nordisk and Eli Lilly, weight-loss drug incumbents, rose sharply.
