Zillow's New Transparency Rules Could Be Tough For Brokerages -- Market Talk

Dow Jones
11 Apr

1014 ET - Zillow on Thursday announced new standards of transparency for residential real-estate listings, which could hurt Compass and other brokerages, D.A. Davidson analyst Tom White says. Zillow's new standards state that if a publicly marketed listing isn't in the Multiple Listing Service, it can't be listed on Zillow. Compass and other brokerages have been hoping to keep listings as office exclusives or private listings, White says, which would now not be eligible to be listed on Zillow. Zillow has said selectively shared listings create confusion and erode trust in the marketplace. (katherine.hamilton@wsj.com)
