0819 GMT - Whether capital from a potential disposal of Santander's subsidiary in Poland would be returned to shareholders or deployed to other geographies is a key question, Jefferies says in a note. Bloomberg reported that the Spanish bank is considering options for its majority stake in its Polish unit. Its operations in Poland brought in 6.4% of 2024 group profits and have a 13% loan market share in the country. "In the event of a hypothetical sale at current market prices, we estimate a regulatory capital release to the tune of 7 billion euros (plus 110 basis points in CET1) or 8.4% of Santander's market cap," analysts calculate. Santander Bank Polska trades at 1.6 times book value currently, they say. A sale would be a positive since it would be the first major disposal by the group in years, they note.
