HSBC Buys Back Shares in London, Hong Kong

HSBC (HKG:0005) bought back a total of 3.6 million shares in Hong Kong and London on Wednesday, a Thursday filing with the Hong Kong bourse said.

The British lender repurchased 2 million shares in the UK at an average price of 7.1134 pounds sterling apiece and 1.6 million shares in Hong Kong at HK$70.8104 per share.

Since the buyback program commenced on Feb. 20, a total of 159,668,341 shares have been repurchased for around $1.79 billion.

Upon cancellation of the shares repurchased in the UK, the bank will have 17,682,988,650 shares in issue.
