Shares advanced 54%, with intraday trading volume soaring to 74.7 million from a daily average of roughly 777,000.
PAMT (PAMT) said late Thursday it kicked off a modified "Dutch auction" tender offer to purchase up to 435,000 of its shares, or about 2% of outstanding common stock, at no less than $14 and no more than $17 per share.
The tender offer will expire on May 1 unless it is extended or withdrawn.
Shares rose 21% as intraday trading volume advanced to more than 145,000 from a daily average of about 23,000.
