Howmet Aerospace (HWM) has reportedly informed customers it declared a force majeure event and may be forced to stop some shipments if targeted by new US tariffs, Reuters reported late Friday, citing a letter to customers.
"Howmet will be excused from supplying any products or services that are impacted by this declared national emergency and/or the tariff executive order," the letter said, reported by Reuters.
A force majeure declaration gives the company legal grounds to renegotiate or suspend contracts if it cannot meet its obligations due to unavoidable external circumstances, the report said.
Howmet did not immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
