Health-care companies rose as traders sought out defensive sectors less sensitive to tariff impacts.

Shares of vaccine makers tumbled after a leading Food and Drug Administration vaccine regulator quit after clashing with Department of Health and Human Services head Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Moderna, Novavax and others fell after Peter Marks, who led the FDA's Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, resigned. Isomorphic Labs raised $600 million in its first external funding round to boost its artificial-intelligence drug design pipeline across multiple therapeutic areas.
