Rolls-Royce in Talks for U.K. Subsidies for New Plane Engine, FT Says, Citing Sources

--Rolls-Royce is in talks with the British government about getting taxpayer support to help fund the development of a new plane engine for the next generation of narrow-body aircraft primarily used for short-haul flights, the Financial Times reports, citing unnamed sources.

--It isn't clear how much of the estimated 3 billion pounds ($3.90 billion) in development cost the U.K. engineering and defense company is seeking in assistance from the government, but Rolls-Royce is ready to invest significant sums itself into the project, FT reports.

--Rolls-Royce declined to comment to the FT on the government talks.
