Germany's DAX Drops on Tariff Fears -- Market Talk

Dow Jones
03 Apr

0749 GMT - Germany's DAX fell below the 22,000-point mark for the first time in more than a month, hit by President Trump's plan to impose sweeping tariffs. The German blue-chip index is down 1.5% at 22,046.62, having fallen as low as 21,809.40, on track to close at a multiweek low. The DAX last closed below the 22,000-point level on Feb. 10 amid a rally since the start of the year. "A recovery seems contingent on the European Union and the U.S. finding common ground and possibly achieving some diplomatic progress that currently appears unlikely," CMC Markets' Jochen Stanzl says in a market comment. The Trump administration on Wednesday said it would impose duties of 20% on imports from the EU. (adria.calatayud@wsj.com)
