Toronto Stocks Inch Forward; Sandstorm Gold Shares Rise on Renewed Buyback Program

Toronto stocks were slightly higher Tuesday at midday, with mixed performance among Canada's sectors. The biggest gainers in the session were materials stocks, followed by energy and consumer durables. On the laggard side, tech, manufacturing and consumer discretionary stocks were the main decliners.

Canada's S&P/TSX Composite Index rose 0.2% to 25363.47 and the blue-chip S&P/TSX 60 edged 0.2% higher to 1522.56.

Sandstorm Gold shares rose by 6.6% to 10.47 Canadian dollars ($7.31). The company has renewed its share repurchase program to buy back up to 7% of its outstanding shares from time to time over the course of a one-year period.
