1006 GMT - Canada's new Prime Minister Mark Carney's decision to review the purchase of F-35 fighter aircraft from Lockheed Martin could boost orders of Europe-made jets, Mediobanca analyst Alessandro Pozzi says. There is no like-for-like alternative to the F-35, but operating them requires maintenance and support from the U.S., at a time of increasing trade tensions, he notes. Canada could instead opt for the Gripen aircraft produced by Swedish peer Saab, Pozzi says. Portugal, which is also reconsidering whether to buy F-35 jets, could choose Eurofighter aircraft, produced by a consortium of BAE Systems, Leonardo and Airbus, or the Rafale jets manufactured by France's Dassault Aviation, Pozzi says. Shares in BAE Systems, one of the suppliers to the F-35 program, are down 0.3% at 16.52 pounds. (cristina.gallardo@wsj.com)
