Canopius names Steele to succeed Bare as group risk director

By Rebecca Delaney

March 18 - (The Insurer) - Specialty (re)insurer Canopius has appointed Candace Steele as group risk director.

Reporting to group chief risk officer Sheldon Lacy, Steele will be responsible for coordinating Canopius’ risk framework.

This includes leading the group risk function and collaborating with respective business unit CROs to align Canopius’ global approach to risk.

Steele joins Canopius from CG Insurance, where she spent six years as chief compliance and risk officer.

Prior to that she spent eight years at Validus Holdings in various roles, latterly as group compliance officer.

Steele succeeds Charity Bare as Canopius' group risk director, who last week was announced as the new chief risk and compliance officer at Aegis London, where she is responsible for risk and exposure management, as well as compliance and regulatory operations.
