Viasat (VSAT) said Tuesday it has been selected to be among the companies supporting NASA's direct-to-Earth communications through the Near Space Network Services contract, which is part of a five-year indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract worth up to $4.82 billion, with a potential five-year extension.

Viasat said its Real-Time Earth Ground-Segment-as-a-Service network will provide satellite to ground communications for Low Earth Orbit missions.

The company said its RTE network will allow NASA to increase opportunities to downlink information and support the delivery of mission critical data.

Shares of the company rose nearly 4% in recent premarket activity.
