Bank of Queensland (ASX:BOQ) is set to shutter 14 branches across Australia in February, Nine News reported on Monday.

It plans to close a single branch in Western Australia, three in New South Wales, four in Victoria, and six in Queensland from February 19 to February 27.

This added to one branch each in Victoria and Queensland already confirmed for closure in February, news.com.au said.

A spokesperson for the bank said it was continuing to simplify operations, as more customers embrace digital banking. Most team members from the branches being closed will transition to new roles across its network, the spokesperson said.

The Finance Sector Union said the bank shut its branch in Geraldton in Western Australia on Jan. 17. The union called on the Australian government to step in and establish regulations to protect rural banking.
