South Korea's Kospi 0.7% Higher; Battery, Shipbuilding Stocks Advance -- Market Talk

0126 GMT - South Korea's benchmark Kospi is up 0.7% to 2432.77 in early trade, as battery and shipbuilding stocks advance. Retail and institutional investors are net buyers. Battery maker LG Energy Solution rises 1.3% following a new energy-storage-system supply deal with U.S. renewable energy company Terra-Gen. Shipbuilder Hanwha Ocean gains 3.6%. The won's weakness against the U.S. dollar is easing after South Korea's finance minister warned against excessive volatility in the pair's trading. USD/KRW is flat at 1,406.15, compared with the prior session's Seoul onshore trading. The South Korean 10-year government bond yield is up 5.3 bps to 3.067%. (kwanwoo.jun@wsj.com)
