South Korea's Kospi 1.2% Lower; Chip, Shipbuilding Stocks Retreat -- Market Talk

0042 GMT - South Korea's benchmark Kospi falls 1.2% to 2562.18 in early trade, as semiconductor and shipbuilding stocks retreat. Foreign and institutional investors are net sellers. Index heavyweight Samsung Electronics is 0.3% lower after mixed 3Q results. The tech giant reported better-than-expected net profit but its core semiconductor business earnings shrank sharply from the previous quarter. Memory-chip maker SK Hynix loses 1.2%. Shipbuilders were lower, with HD Hyundai Mipo falling 3.3%. USD/KRW is 0.2% lower at 1,380.10, compared with the prior session'sonshore trading close. The South Korean 10-year government bond yield is down 1.3 bps at 3.105%. (kwanwoo.jun@wsj.com)
