On March 31, the maintenance dredging project for the southern channel of Dongjiakou Port Area, constructed by China Construction Harbor Group Co., Ltd., officially commenced. As a critical maintenance initiative for the port’s core navigation route, the project will restore the channel’s designed dimensions, enhance navigation efficiency and safety, and provide significant momentum for the high-quality development of port-side industries and the construction of Qingdao as an international shipping hub.
The southern channel of Dongjiakou Port spans a total length of 31.343 kilometers, consisting of an inner channel measuring 14.448 kilometers long and 470 meters wide, and an outer channel extending 16.895 kilometers with a width of 1,000 meters. Both sections have a designed bottom elevation of -23.2 meters relative to the local lowest theoretical tide level. Due to long-term vessel traffic and water flow erosion, sedimentation has occurred in certain segments, affecting the safe passage of large vessels.
The maintenance dredging project involves a net excavation volume of approximately 1.074 million cubic meters, focusing on precise dredging in silted areas to fully restore the channel’s designed specifications. The project team will enforce strict quality and safety controls, striving to deliver a secure, environmentally friendly, and high-quality project that contributes to the sustainable development of Dongjiakou Port Area.
The successful implementation of the project will ensure smooth navigation in the port’s channel, improve the passage capacity for large vessels, reduce navigation risks, and provide solid support for increasing the port’s throughput and attracting more large ships. Additionally, it holds significant practical importance for enhancing the regional transportation network, promoting the agglomeration of port-side industries, and supporting the execution of national strategies.
