Morgan Stanley: Asia Faces Heightened Concerns Over LNG Supply Risks Stemming from Middle East Conflict

Deep News
Mar 12

Morgan Stanley economists stated in a report that disruptions to liquefied natural gas supplies due to Middle East conflicts could be more worrying for certain Asian economies than risks to oil supplies. They indicated that for economies sourcing LNG from the Middle East, finding alternative supply sources would be challenging. The economists added that most Asian economies also have limited inventories due to storage challenges. These economies might begin exploring alternative fuels for power generation, such as coal, which offers flexibility in increasing consumption rates, or they may curb usage in their industrial sectors. They further noted that among Asian economies, India, South Korea, and Thailand are likely the most vulnerable to LNG supply risks, given their low inventory days and heavy reliance on imports from the Middle East.
