Tongchuan City Launches Campaign Against Non-Medical Devices Masquerading as Medical Equipment

Tongchuan City Market Regulatory Authority in Shaanxi Province has initiated a special enforcement campaign targeting non-medical products falsely marketed as medical devices. The initiative aims to strengthen risk screening and protect public rights in medical device usage. The campaign focuses on identifying cases where daily necessities such as dental floss, toothbrushes, arm sleeves, and cosmetics are illegally promoted as dental brushes, dental scalers, or oral desensitizing gels in retail pharmacies. Authorities are also investigating potential fraudulent activities involving medical insurance funds. Inspections combine self-reporting by businesses and on-site checks, with officials verifying supplier qualifications and scrutinizing documents such as procurement invoices, delivery slips, and warehouse records for falsification. So far, examinations of 126 medical device retailers and 17 wholesalers have uncovered no violations. Moving forward, the regulatory body will maintain a problem-oriented approach, enhance long-term supervision mechanisms, and adopt a zero-tolerance stance toward irregularities to ensure thorough oversight and a safer medical device market.
