On the evening of September 8, recent circulated images showed a car company sales representative claiming during promotional activities that NIO Inc.'s battery swapping model makes "second-hand car disposal very troublesome. If you want to sell your car, buyers must accept your battery rental contract and pass NIO Inc.'s qualification review, which would affect your vehicle's residual value and selling speed."
In response, NIO Inc.'s Head of User Operations Yang Bo issued a statement clarifying that NIO Inc.'s Battery as a Service (BaaS) provides users with "choice" rather than "constraints." Users can flexibly choose between battery purchase or rental based on their financial planning and vehicle usage cycles. During the rental period, battery maintenance and warranty are covered by NIO Inc., representing dual optimization of user costs and risks.
Yang Bo noted that electric vehicle products iterate rapidly, and some users have relatively short vehicle replacement cycles, which is precisely where BaaS demonstrates its advantages.
For users with longer vehicle replacement cycles, Yang Bo stated that battery swapping and battery upgrades are highly beneficial. He highlighted how the original ES8 from seven years ago can still swap to a brand new 100kWh battery for a National Day trip to Mount Everest.
NIO Inc. Senior Vice President Shen Fei, when reposting this content, commented: "Regarding both the explanation of BaaS and subsequent requirements, I ask NIO Inc. and ONVO fellows to take this as a lesson and maintain strict standards. If there are violations, I will handle them seriously. Remember, small victories rely on wisdom, big victories rely on virtue. Of course, virtue alone without capability won't work either - like a scholar facing soldiers. We must simultaneously enhance our formidable capabilities to win both chaotic and tough battles."
