China Unicom (00762) AH shares surged in afternoon trading. As of press time, China Unicom H-shares rose 2.54% to HK$9.68 with trading volume of HK$728 million, while China Unicom A-shares gained over 5%.

On the news front, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) recently granted China Unicom a satellite mobile communication business operating license. China Unicom can now legally operate mobile phone direct satellite connection services and other related businesses, deepening applications in emergency communications, maritime communications, and remote area communications scenarios, while enriching communication service and product offerings.

Going forward, MIIT will coordinate development and security, further optimize satellite communication market access, strengthen full-chain supervision and security assurance, and promote high-quality development of China's satellite communication industry to strongly support the construction of a cyber power, space power, and digital China.

Additionally, MIIT recently released the "Guiding Opinions on Optimizing Business Access to Promote Satellite Communication Industry Development." Securities analysts point out that the introduction of these Guiding Opinions is expected to jointly promote the orderly development of China's satellite communication industry from the industrial, technological, and application perspectives. On the industrial side, China's low-orbit satellite constellation construction process is expected to further accelerate; on the technological side, innovative technologies such as artificial intelligence and 5G/6G are expected to further integrate with the satellite communication industry, driving continuous progress in communication networks and related software and hardware technologies; on the application side, the commercialization process of direct satellite connections for terminals such as mobile phones and automobiles is expected to accelerate further.
