Citi reiterated its "Buy" rating for Microsoft (MSFT.US) in a research report released Friday, stating that the continued momentum of its Copilot business and the robust fundamentals of its Azure cloud service further solidify the company's leading position in the enterprise AI software sector. Citi analyst Radke noted in the report that recent meetings with Microsoft's investor relations team conveyed several positive signals. Management addressed key investor concerns, including the competitive landscape, Microsoft's strategic positioning following adjustments to its partnership with OpenAI, and the paths for computing capacity allocation and capital expenditures. The report indicated that these communications effectively alleviated market worries about competition from tools like Claude and other collaborative platforms, as well as concerns regarding Microsoft's AI resource allocation. Regarding business progress, management's comments further confirmed the ongoing improvement in Copilot adoption rates. Citi believes Copilot has become a primary growth driver for the Microsoft 365 commercial business, with its pulling effect gradually surpassing that of the E5 suite. Meanwhile, the Azure cloud business continues to face constraints on computing power supply; however, the company has established a clear resource allocation framework to support the orderly growth of AI-related demand. On profitability, Microsoft expressed optimism about the long-term sustainability of Azure's profit margins. Management indicated that operational efficiency is expected to improve further through the development of in-house Maia chips, enhancements in software and throughput efficiency, and the continuous optimization of internal large language models (LLMs). Additionally, the broader total addressable market for AI is seen as a support for future growth. In the short term, the company will focus more on increasing free cash flow and gross profit scale. Citi concluded that the discussions reinforced its constructive long-term outlook for Microsoft. With its comprehensive advantages in data, workflow, and security, Microsoft is well-positioned to expand its competitive edge in the AI-driven enterprise software market and consolidate its industry leadership.
