The China-Laos Railway has demonstrated significant achievements in both passenger and freight transport this year, continuously enhancing the efficiency of this vital international trade corridor. The railway provides robust support for travel convenience for residents along the route and facilitates regional economic and trade exchanges, contributing to the high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative. As of March 22, the railway has transported 5.499 million tons of cargo and carried 5.501 million passengers since the beginning of the year.
As a crucial transportation link connecting China and Laos, the China-Laos Railway has seen steady growth in passenger and freight volumes since it began operations on December 3, 2021. To ensure smooth transport operations, railway authorities have prioritized safety while optimizing services, leading to continuous improvements in logistics efficiency and service quality. Tailored services, such as early check-in and guided assistance, have been introduced for different passenger groups, including tourists, migrant workers, and international students, ensuring a comfortable travel experience. Enhanced coordination with customs authorities and the implementation of expedited clearance procedures, along with comprehensive "door-to-door" logistics services, have effectively reduced logistics costs.
Cross-border transport has continued to gain momentum this year, further unlocking the potential of the China-Laos Railway as an international trade corridor. Since the launch of international passenger train services on April 13, 2023, a total of 3,114 trains have been operated, transporting 780,000 cross-border passengers. This year alone, 324 international trains have run, carrying 102,000 passengers, representing a year-on-year increase of 31.4%.
