Tencent Holdings Limited and Tencent Music Entertainment Group have issued a joint announcement. The announcement references the "Decision on Conditional Approval of Tencent Holdings Limited's Acquisition of Equity in Himalaya with Additional Restrictive Conditions," issued by the State Administration for Market Regulation on May 11, 2026. In accordance with the attached "Commitment Plan with Additional Restrictive Conditions," the company has committed to no longer entering into or effectively establishing exclusive copyright licensing agreements with rights holders as defined in the plan. Furthermore, Tencent will terminate all existing exclusive licensing agreements in various forms within the stipulated timeframe.
The announcement serves as an official declaration to all partners. Firstly, the company will relinquish its exclusive rights concerning online audio content in agreements with the relevant rights holders. These rights holders are now free to license their content to other operators, and Tencent will not hold them accountable for any liabilities arising from such authorizations.
Secondly, Tencent stated it will strictly adhere to the requirements of the Decision and the Commitment Plan to terminate all existing exclusive licensing agreements with the relevant rights holders and requested their active cooperation. Subsequently, the company will actively seek to maintain cooperative relationships with all partners on a non-exclusive basis. Tencent emphasized its high regard and value for the long-standing, positive business relationships established with its partners.
The announcement concluded by stating that in future copyright collaborations, Tencent will work alongside all industry participants to uphold fair market competition and foster the healthy and innovative development of China's online audio content industry.
