Tencent's TiMi Studio Denies Reports of Mass Layoffs in Game Project

Recent rumors suggesting that a project team under Tencent's TiMi Studio Group would undergo layoffs affecting hundreds of employees, with no internal transfer opportunities, and an expected official announcement within two weeks, have been addressed. Tencent has not yet issued an official response. However, according to sources, the claims are inaccurate.

The sources indicated that while an adjustment is indeed taking place for a project previously managed by the original TiMi J6 team, the number of employees affected is over 100. Furthermore, impacted staff have been given a two-month缓冲期, and the company is actively facilitating internal transfers. Employees who choose to leave after the two-month period will be eligible for N+1 compensation.

The adjustment for the aforementioned TiMi project team is reportedly due to the underperformance of the monster-catching game mode "Shan Hai Xun Ling," which the team was responsible for developing.

Public information shows that "Shan Hai Xun Ling" is not a standalone product but a major version update titled "Shan Hai Xun Ling: Monster-Catching World" for the party game "Yuan Meng Zhi Xing," launched earlier this year. The game mode was first unveiled in 2024, underwent multiple rounds of testing, and was officially released on January 30.

It is worth noting that several Tencent games performed exceptionally well during the Spring Festival holiday. This year, on Chinese New Year's Eve, "Peace Elite" set a new record with its daily active users surpassing 90 million. Additionally, during the holiday period, other Tencent titles such as "Jin Chan Chan Zhi Zhan," "Valorant Mobile," "Naruto," "League of Legends: Wild Rift," and "CrossFire: Legends" all ranked within the top ten on China's iOS bestseller chart.
