At the AGI-Next Frontier Summit initiated by the Beijing Key Laboratory of Tsinghua University and Zhipu AI, Tang Jie, a professor at Tsinghua University and founder of Zhipu, expressed his views on DeepSeek, stating, "The emergence of DeepSeek in early 2025 was unexpected by many in the research community, industry, and beyond, and it profoundly shocked a great number of people."

Tang Jie indicated that he began to contemplate that perhaps under the paradigm exemplified by DeepSeek, even if they performed exceptionally well, they might only achieve results comparable to DeepSeek in the realm of Chat, possibly with slightly more personalization or emotional integration. However, broadly speaking, this paradigm might be "nearing its limit," with the remaining challenges being more focused on engineering and technical issues. Consequently, he found himself pondering the direction for AI's next developmental phase.

"Our thinking at the time was that perhaps the new paradigm involves enabling every individual to use AI to accomplish specific tasks; this could represent the next evolutionary step. Previously, the focus was on Chat, but now it's genuinely about taking action, thus heralding the dawn of a new paradigm," Tang Jie stated. After careful consideration, Zhipu ultimately decided to integrate AI Coding, Agentic, and Reasoning capabilities, aiming for a relatively balanced development of these three competencies rather than pursuing them as separate, isolated research endeavors.

According to Tang Jie, following the release of GLM-4.5 on July 28, 2025, which integrated coding, reasoning, and agent capabilities, Zhipu achieved leading positions in 12 domestic benchmarks. The recently released GLM-4.7 has demonstrated significant further improvements in Agent and Coding capabilities compared to the previous GLM-4.6 and GLM-4.5 versions.
