On March 31, Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Ltd. (CATL) announced that its controlling shareholder, Xiamen Ruiting Investment Co., Ltd., has signed a donation agreement with the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Education Development Foundation. Under the agreement, Xiamen Ruiting will donate 5 million unrestricted A-shares of CATL to the foundation at no cost. All proceeds generated from these donated shares will be allocated to the "Robin Zeng Education Development Fund" to support educational initiatives at Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
Based on CATL's closing share price of 401.70 yuan per share on the same day, the donated shares are valued at approximately 2 billion yuan.
Previously, in April 2021, during the 125th anniversary celebration of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Robin Zeng, founder and CEO of CATL and an alumnus of the university's naval architecture engineering class of 1985, was appointed as a university trustee and established the "Robin Zeng Education Fund." In the same year, CATL donated 2 million company shares to Shanghai Jiao Tong University, valued at over 1.3 billion yuan at the time.
Public records show that as the university approaches its 130th anniversary, it has received several donations exceeding 100 million yuan.
On December 29, 2025, master's alumnus Tang Ye from the class of 2007 donated 1 million shares of Bichut Electronics (valued at approximately 130 million yuan) to establish the "Tang Ye Education Fund" at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The fund will primarily support the Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering College, the School of Mechanical Engineering, the School of Integrated Circuits, the Future Technology Institute, and the overall development of the university.
On January 16, 2026, Chen Guangming, an undergraduate alumnus from the class of 1996 and a master's alumnus from the class of 1999, university trustee, and founder of Ruifeng Fund, donated 130 million yuan to his alma mater. The donation will support the "Ruifeng Youth Science and Technology Award," aimed at assisting young researchers and designated for medical aid, business innovation, and departmental development.
On February 26, 2026, Ji Qi, founder of Huazhu Group and an undergraduate alumnus from the class of 1989 in engineering mechanics and a master's alumnus from the class of 1992 in mechanical engineering, donated 100 million yuan to support various development projects at the university.
On the same day, the actual controller of East Money Information Co., Ltd. donated 20 million unrestricted tradable shares of the company, accounting for 0.13% of its total shares, to the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Education Development Foundation. Based on East Money's closing price of 22.50 yuan per share that day, the donated shares are valued at approximately 450 million yuan.
On February 27, 2026, Cheng Minghe, a university trustee, co-founder of Mindray Medical, and an alumnus with a bachelor's degree in biomedical instruments (class of 1985) and a master's degree in biomedical engineering (class of 1988), donated 15 million U.S. dollars (approximately 100 million yuan) to his alma mater. The funds will promote the university's advancements in medical-engineering integration, industry-academia collaboration, and clinical teaching capabilities.
On March 17, during the 130th anniversary celebrations of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Jing Xiandong, chairman of Ant Group Co., Ltd. and an undergraduate alumnus from the class of 1994, donated cash and Ant Group shares valued at 130 million yuan. The donation will support the university's "AI Future Foundation Fund," fostering innovation and talent development in the field of artificial intelligence.
