Yunnan Consumer Prices Dip 0.1% Month-on-Month in January

Data released on February 13 by the Yunnan Survey Team of the National Bureau of Statistics showed that in January 2026, Yunnan's Consumer Price Index (CPI) decreased by 0.1% compared to the previous month, while increasing by 0.2% year-on-year. The core CPI, which excludes food and energy prices, rose 1.1% year-on-year, maintaining a moderate upward trend. On a monthly basis, CPI shifted from a 0.3% increase in the previous month to a 0.1% decline. Food prices fell by 1.3%, contributing approximately 0.23 percentage points to the CPI decline. Non-food prices increased by 0.2%, the same rate as the previous month, contributing about 0.13 percentage points to the CPI increase. Year-on-year, CPI rose by 0.2%, a slowdown of 0.6 percentage points from the previous month. Food prices turned from a 0.9% increase in the previous month to a 2.0% decrease, contributing around 0.35 percentage points to the CPI decline. Non-food prices rose by 0.7%, a slight slowdown of 0.1 percentage points from the previous month, contributing approximately 0.56 percentage points to the CPI increase. Regarding the Producer Price Index (PPI), Yunnan's PPI increased by 1.2% month-on-month and 2.2% year-on-year in January. The Purchasing Price Index (IPI) rose by 1.6% month-on-month and 3.0% year-on-year. Month-on-month, the PPI increase of 1.2% represented a slowdown of 2.4 percentage points from the previous month. Among the 32 major industrial sectors surveyed, prices increased in 13 sectors, remained unchanged in 6, and decreased in 13. Year-on-year, PPI rose by 2.2%, compared to a 0.1% decline in the previous month. Among the surveyed sectors, prices increased in 15, were unchanged in 2, and decreased in 15.
