On January 15, the founder of the "Is It Dead" app, Mr. Guo, confirmed that the software was "required to be removed." A check revealed that the "Is It Dead" app is currently unsearchable in the Apple App Store, replaced by multiple other apps such as "Are You Alive?" and "Dead Yet?". Among them, an app named "Demumu—Are You Still Alive?" is scheduled for release on January 24.

A search on Android application stores also yielded no results for downloading the app. On the morning of January 15, one of the app's co-founders, Mr. Lü, shared a personal photo and a message stating, "Starting WeChat daily check-in Day1#Nothing matters except life and death#Reporting safe." Mr. Lü indicated that in response to recent discussions about renaming the "Is It Dead" app to "Demumu," the team has decided to restart the process of soliciting a new name. The naming campaign has already attracted thousands of comments, including suggestions like "Safety Check," "are you ok," and "See You Tomorrow."

Previously, some voices questioned the auspiciousness of the name "'Is It Dead'," to which Mr. Lü responded in an interview that the naming inspiration came from the genuine needs of netizens. He admitted they expected it to be "popular" but not "explosively" so. He shared that having experienced loneliness while working alone in Shenzhen, he "does not consider the name to be bad." On January 13, the "Is It Dead" app announced it would adopt the global brand name Demumu. On January 14, the app launched a public campaign to solicit a new name, promising, "We will select the best creative idea and reward the first user who proposed the chosen name with a 666 yuan cash red packet."
