Best Buy (BBY.US) announced Tuesday the official launch of its new online marketplace platform. By adding third-party sellers (similar to Amazon and Walmart's e-commerce platforms), the new marketplace platform has more than doubled the number of products available on the retailer's website and mobile application. Best Buy stated this represents the largest expansion of its total product count to date. The expansion was achieved by leveraging Mirakl's marketplace platform to integrate new products from multiple third-party sellers. Consumers will now be able to find hundreds of new brands and expanded categories, covering seasonal decorations, automotive technology, office and home supplies, movies and music. Technology product selections have also become more extensive, including custom gaming equipment, accessories, and premium electronics from well-known brands such as Samsung and Microsoft. Additionally, third-party sellers like Beach Camera and Antonline are bringing new brands to the platform. Best Buy has also expanded its small appliance product line, introducing brands such as Oster and Martha Stewart, and has tripled the scale of its furniture products. Licensed sports merchandise provided by Fanatics will also be available soon, bringing officially certified team merchandise to consumers for the first time. Movies will also return in various physical formats. Customers will also benefit from store and online integration, as products purchased on the marketplace platform can be returned at Best Buy stores. The company's overall goal is to provide a more convenient and comprehensive shopping experience by bringing technology, lifestyle, and entertainment products together under the same digital platform. Jason Bonfig, Best Buy's Chief Customer, Product & Fulfillment Officer, stated: "Everything we do is centered around our customers and their technology needs. We definitely see consumers conducting a lot of consumer electronics transactions on marketplace platforms. Therefore, we must adapt and be present where our customers are."
