Roughly a month after its debut, Grok Bot, the AI agent developed by SpaceX's AI division, has surpassed 400,000 weekly active users, signaling a moderate early reception for a product central to Elon Musk's artificial intelligence ambitions. According to a presentation shared at a London event and details provided by attendees, Grok Bot recorded 418,000 weekly users as of September 14, marking a 24% increase from the prior week. The most recent user figures remain undisclosed.
This agent product differs from Grok, SpaceX's flagship chatbot. Launched in mid-August, Grok Bot is designed to close the gap with Anthropic PBC and OpenAI in the rapidly evolving AI agent market. Instead of functioning like a typical chatbot, Grok Bot operates more like an always-on employee, capable of responding to emails, updating sales databases, processing invoices, organizing tasks, and submitting software bug reports.
Wall Street has turned its attention to the growth potential of AI agents this week, following the rise of Meta Platforms Inc's Muse to the top of Apple's free app chart. Analysts have drawn parallels between Muse's early momentum and the breakout success of OpenAI's ChatGPT in late 2022. While Meta's Muse targets consumers with a free-to-download model, SpaceX positions Grok Bot as an enterprise-oriented tool, bundling it with tiered AI subscription plans and also offering it as a standalone application. Data shows that Muse has achieved four times the number of downloads compared to Grok Bot.
Over the past three months, SpaceX has aggressively expanded its footprint in the AI space. Following its $60 billion acquisition of AI coding startup Cursor, the company accelerated the rollout of new models and agent offerings. In July, SpaceX unveiled Grok 4.5, a model focused on coding, financial, and legal tasks, priced more competitively than rival software. Earlier this week, SpaceX introduced Grok 4.7, designed to tackle more demanding tasks over extended periods.
