Yu Hui's Livestream Faces Backlash Over "You Si Yi" Product Scandal, Company Offers Refunds Amid Public Skepticism

Dong Yuhui's livestream commerce platform "Yu Hui Tong Xing" has encountered another product controversy. Recently, state media exposed that the popular health supplement brand "You Si Yi" was involved in systematic fraud across its supply chain, drawing widespread attention. As a major livestream channel that previously promoted this brand, Yu Hui Tong Xing is once again under scrutiny for its product quality control issues.

In response to the incident, Yu Hui Tong Xing's customer service stated that the company has immediately launched a comprehensive review and is closely monitoring the progress of the official investigation. During communication, the platform promised, "Pending the official results, we will provide full refunds for all orders of You Si Yi products purchased through our livestream."

However, most consumers remain dissatisfied with this response. Many have questioned whether the handling complies with China's Consumer Rights Protection Law, which mandates triple compensation for counterfeit products. Additionally, the statement was not publicly announced on the company's official social media accounts, raising concerns about transparency.

Statistics show that just 19 days ago, Yu Hui Tong Xing faced criticism when one of its promoted products, "Man Shan Chan" chicken claws, was implicated in a supplier scandal exposed by state media. Over the past year, the platform has repeatedly been involved in controversies, including issues with "Da An Lang Hua" shrimp containing excessive water retention, allegations of counterfeit "Wan Xi Ma Huang Ji" chicken, and the detection of bovine ingredients in "Zhuo Mu" goat milk powder.

Since leaving Oriental Selection 20 months ago, Dong Yuhui's independent venture has encountered increasing product quality challenges.

Following the recent exposure, state media revealed that the supplement brand "You Si Yi," marketed as "imported from Australia," had fabricated its production address in Melbourne, which was actually an auto repair shop. A marketing executive admitted that the products were manufactured in Guangzhou but packaged to appear Australian. Investigation found that production costs were only几十 yuan, yet the products sold for 200–400 yuan per bottle, with total sales exceeding 4 million bottles. The brand also lacked official health food certification but used experts and influencers to promote eye health benefits.

Authorities, including the State Council's Food Safety Office and market regulators, have launched an investigation and held discussions with major e-commerce platforms. As a leading livestream channel that generated 10–25 million yuan in sales for You Si Yi, accounting for nearly 40% of the brand's total revenue, Yu Hui Tong Xing's response has drawn significant public attention.

The platform reiterated its commitment to consumer rights and promised to strengthen product selection and risk control. However, many consumers criticized the apology as insincere, noting that quality issues have recurred frequently, and the response failed to meet legal standards.

Within 19 days, Yu Hui Tong Xing has been implicated in two state-media exposés. During the recent Consumer Rights Day, another supplier, Sichuan Shu Fu Xiang Food Co., was found using industrial hydrogen peroxide in processing chicken claws, which were sold under the "Man Shan Chan" brand promoted by the platform. Footage showed unsanitary production conditions, with workers admitting they would not consume the products themselves.

Prior to this, during last year's Consumer Rights Day, the platform's promoted "Da An Lang Hua" shrimp was exposed for excessive additive use. The frequency of such incidents highlights systemic flaws in the platform's product screening process. Additional controversies involved misleading claims about "Wan Xi Ma Huang Ji" chicken, adulterated goat milk powder, and allegedly false advertising of "Wan Bang" mugwort patches. Consumer complaints have also surged on platforms like Hei Mao投诉.

Industry experts suggest that despite having professional teams for product evaluation, Yu Hui Tong Xing may prioritize rapid profit over due diligence. One analyst commented that the platform likely conducted risk assessments but chose to overlook red flags for financial gain, reflecting a trend of seeking quick returns in the booming livestream commerce sector.

Since acquiring full ownership of Yu Hui Tong Xing in July 2024, Dong Yuhui has emphasized rigorous product testing, including pre-screening, laboratory checks, and staff trials. He previously claimed to invest nearly one million yuan monthly in quality control and factory inspections. However, these measures apparently failed to identify blatant fraud, such as You Si Yi's false factory claims, undermining the platform's credibility.
