On the morning of September 6, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and National Supervisory Commission website announced that Yi Huiman, Deputy Director of the Economic Committee of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, is suspected of serious violations of discipline and law, and is currently under disciplinary review and supervisory investigation by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and National Supervisory Commission.
Yi Huiman, male, Han ethnicity, was born in December 1964 in Cangnan, Zhejiang Province. He holds an EMBA degree and a doctorate in management.
He previously served as Party Secretary and President of ICBC Jiangsu Branch, Party Committee member of ICBC and Party Secretary and President of Beijing Branch, Vice President and President of ICBC, Party Secretary and Chairman of ICBC, and Party Secretary and Chairman of the China Securities Regulatory Commission. He currently serves as a member of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and resident Deputy Director of the Economic Committee.
Born in December 1964 in Cangnan, Zhejiang, Yi Huiman studied Urban Finance at Zhejiang Financial College in his early years.
In 1984, at age 20, Yi Huiman graduated from Zhejiang Banking School with a major in Urban Finance and was assigned to the Planning Department of the People's Bank of China Hangzhou Branch.
In January of the following year, when ICBC was spun off from the central bank as an independent commercial banking entity, he naturally moved to the Planning Department of ICBC Hangzhou Branch as Deputy Director.
Over the subsequent years, Yi Huiman steadily advanced within ICBC, progressing from Director of Hangzhou Branch's West Lake Office to President of Hangzhou Branch and Vice President of Zhejiang Branch.
In 2000, at just 36 years old, he was appointed President of ICBC Jiangsu Branch. During his four-year tenure, Jiangsu Branch's operational performance ranking within the ICBC system improved from 9th place in 1999 to 4th place in 2004.
In 2005, Yi Huiman was transferred to serve as President of ICBC Beijing Branch. Over the following two years, Beijing Branch consecutively won first place in operational performance rankings within the national ICBC system.
In 2008, Yi Huiman was promoted to Vice President of ICBC headquarters, overseeing key departments including Corporate Banking, Settlement, and E-banking.
In May 2013, he was promoted from the fifth-ranking Vice President to President.
In May 2016, 52-year-old Yi Huiman succeeded Jiang Jianqing as Chairman of ICBC, becoming the helmsman of the world's largest bank.
At the time, a central bank official commented on Yi Huiman: "Among state-owned major banks, there is almost no precedent for a president to directly succeed as chairman. The chairman position of state-owned major banks is generally filled by heads of the central bank or other vice-ministerial level institutions. Yi Huiman's capabilities are evident."
Under Yi Huiman's leadership, ICBC maintained the highest net profit levels in the global banking industry for two consecutive years from 2016-2017. On January 23, 2018, its market capitalization reached 2.67 trillion yuan, surpassing JPMorgan Chase of the United States to reclaim the title of the world's largest bank by market value, earning the affectionate nickname "the universe's largest bank."
In January 2019, Yi Huiman assumed the position of Party Secretary and Chairman of the China Securities Regulatory Commission.
At his inaugural meeting, he candidly stated: "I have already felt what it means to be at a volcano crater, walking on thin ice, not daring to slack off in the slightest."
He emphasized four key principles of reverence: reverence for the market, reverence for the rule of law, reverence for professionalism, and reverence for risk.
In February 2024, Yi Huiman stepped down from his CSRC positions, and in June of the same year, he assumed the role of resident Deputy Director of the Economic Committee of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.
