Hong Kong police reported a gold robbery at Peninsula Square on Chung On Street in Hung Hom on March 20, involving 73 gold bars weighing one kilogram each, with an estimated value of approximately HK$100 million. Police quickly launched an investigation, arresting five individuals—men and women—linked to the case and successfully recovering all 73 kilograms of stolen gold bars.
The incident occurred around 2:45 p.m. on the 20th, when a man posing as a buyer entered a gold dealer's office in a commercial building on Chung On Street, Hung Hom, to conduct a gold transaction with staff. Suddenly, two men and a woman forced their way into the office, claiming that the company's owner owed a large debt. Together with the male buyer, they took advantage of the confusion to seize the 73 gold bars, weighing about 73 kilograms in total, and placed them into a suitcase.
The West Kowloon Regional Crime Unit carried out an investigation, reviewing surveillance footage and analyzing intelligence. Subsequently, they arrested four men and one woman involved in the case in Central and Tai Po, and located all the missing gold in a vehicle near the residence of one of the arrested individuals in Tai Po. It is reported that one of those arrested had previous business dealings with the robbed gold dealer.
Police stated that the case remains under investigation, and all arrested individuals will continue to be detained for further inquiry. Authorities also took the opportunity to advise the public to exercise caution and maintain confidentiality regarding schedules and transaction details when dealing in valuable items or large sums of cash, to avoid giving opportunities to criminals. If transporting goods between different locations, hiring a reputable security company is recommended for added safety.
