Xpeng CEO He Xiaopeng said the company has developed autonomous driving chips more powerful than Nvidia’s and expects Volkswagen and other automakers to become customers.

Xpeng is working to integrate its Turing AI chip into select VW models set to launch in China next year and is also in discussions to supply chips to other manufacturers.

“We need a type of chip that can support these platforms and also power our [AI] large language model,” He said, emphasizing Xpeng’s broader ambitions across cars, aircraft, and robotics.

Xpeng later clarified that talks with VW and others are still ongoing. VW confirmed the joint development of two mid-class vehicles with Xpeng for launch next year.
