Marriott Vacations Worldwide (VAC) saw its stock soar by 5.07% in intraday trading, following a surprising leadership shakeup at the timeshare operator. The company announced that John E. Geller, Jr. has resigned from his role as President and CEO at the board's request, marking a significant change in the company's top management.

Matthew E. Avril, who joined the company's Board of Directors in March 2025, has been appointed as Interim President and CEO. Avril brings over 30 years of experience in the hospitality and vacation ownership industry, including previous leadership roles at Diamond Resorts International and Starwood Hotels & Resorts. The Board has initiated a search for a permanent replacement, signaling a new direction for the company's leadership.

Despite the unexpected nature of the change, Marriott Vacations has reaffirmed its 2025 guidance issued on November 5, providing some reassurance to investors. The company has also postponed its planned Investor Day, previously scheduled for December 17, until further notice. In a show of confidence in its stock value, Marriott Vacations announced its intention to opportunistically repurchase shares under its remaining $347 million buyback program during the current quarter, potentially contributing to the positive market reaction.
