Fu Peng, the former Chief Economist of Northeast Securities, has officially joined Hong Kong-listed company BITFIRE GROUP (1611.HK), assuming the role of Chief Economist. The company has confirmed this appointment.
Fu Peng is a well-known internet-famous economist. Public records indicate he served as Chief Economist at Northeast Securities Research Institute starting in 2020, with his tenure ending on April 30, 2025. At that time, he cited the need for an extended period of rest following two major surgeries as the reason for his temporary departure.
In his new position at BITFIRE GROUP, Fu Peng will be primarily responsible for macroeconomic research and providing strategic analysis for the institutional client investments of the group. It remains unclear whether he will be based in Hong Kong.
BITFIRE GROUP, formerly known as Huobi Technology, is a compliant digital financial services group headquartered in Hong Kong. Its single largest shareholder is Li Lin, a co-founder of Huobi, who holds a 29.82% stake in BITFIRE GROUP through the family office Avenir Investment Limited.
Following Li Lin becoming the largest shareholder, BITFIRE GROUP has transformed into a financial institution offering private banking-level stewardship services for digital assets. Its main businesses include account opening, trading, custody, asset management, boutique investment advisory, and crypto trust services, acting as an investment bridge connecting traditional finance and digital assets for high-net-worth clients. The current CEO of BITFIRE GROUP, Weng Xiaoqi, holds a 10.97% stake in the company. Prior to August 2025, Weng Xiaoqi was the CEO of Hashkey Exchange, a licensed local exchange in Hong Kong.
Fu Peng confirmed his move to BITFIRE GROUP, stating the role primarily involves a combination of FICC and Crypto businesses. FICC is an acronym for Fixed Income, Currencies, and Commodities, commonly referred to as major asset classes, while Crypto denotes cryptocurrency.
Public information shows that Fu Peng worked at an event-driven strategy fund under Solomon Investment Group from 2005 to 2008. He has also launched several courses related to "major asset classes."
Among some institutional cryptocurrency investors in Hong Kong, interest in major asset classes is gradually increasing. Fu Peng's addition to BITFIRE GROUP is likely to enhance the group's capabilities in strategy and research analysis for major asset allocation for its clients.
