Recently, Yum China, in collaboration with the China Rural Development Foundation, officially launched the “Donate a Yuan: Revamping Village School Kitchens” initiative. This project focuses on improving the dining environment in rural schools by upgrading modern kitchen equipment and conducting nutrition education, laying a solid foundation for the healthy growth of rural children. As of the end of June 2025, the “Donate a Yuan” charity project, a joint effort between Yum China and the China Rural Development Foundation, has raised over 280 million Yuan, providing approximately 59.6 million nutritious meals for children in underdeveloped regions and establishing over 1,500 caring kitchens, with total participation exceeding 150 million, demonstrating extensive reach and far-reaching impact.

At the KFC restaurant in Shenzhen Women and Children's Building, a unique charity event kicked off. A group of young guests, donned in chef hats and aprons, took center stage, embarking on a warm and informative charitable journey during the “Donate a Yuan: Revamping Village School Kitchens” themed event. During the activity, the children got a close-up view of the kitchen operations and learned about nutrition. In the "Little Experts Video Show" segment, they greeted and shared with peers in distant rural areas through the camera. Additionally, the children enthusiastically introduced the “Donate a Yuan: Revamping Village School Kitchens” project to restaurant customers, inviting them to pay attention to the needs of rural companions and contribute to improving their learning and living environment.

As a new chapter in Yum China's philanthropic efforts, the “Donate a Yuan: Revamping Village School Kitchens” project focuses on two core areas: caring kitchens and nutrition education. In terms of building caring kitchens, the project equips rural schools with a complete set of standardized kitchen equipment, including induction stoves, rice steamers, and dish sterilizers, significantly improving the hardware conditions of campus kitchens. In the realm of nutrition education, the project provides training in nutritional knowledge and teaching toolkits for teachers and students, supporting schools in conducting nutrition-themed activities and enhancing the understanding of scientific diet and nutrition among faculty and students.

In this new phase of action, Yum China invites all sectors of society to participate in this charity relay. The public can take part in nationwide charitable activities by purchasing KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, or LAVAZZA caring meal sets, or by donating through online platforms like Tmall and Tencent Charity. They can also extend their care for rural children by participating in employee activities. Yum China CEO, Qu Cui Rong, stated, “Yum China adheres to the value of ‘Benevolent Heart and Right Action’, continuously boosting rural development through public welfare initiatives. We understand the importance of a good kitchen and are capable of transforming this expertise into heartfelt charity. Yum China looks forward to reuniting everyone to transport nutritious meals, scientific concepts, and steadfast love to the campuses, dining tables, and hearts of children.”
