South Korea's Semiconductor Industry Professionals Emerge as Top Contenders in Marriage Market

The semiconductor industry in South Korea has been experiencing robust growth recently, leading not only to rising incomes for its employees but also an unexpected benefit—they have become highly sought-after in the marriage market.

According to reports, given the anticipation of substantial bonuses, matchmaking agencies have been raising the attractiveness scores for employees of major chip manufacturers. The long-established matchmaking company Sunoo has increased the "spouse attractiveness index" for Samsung Electronics employees from 84 to 87 points.

Sunoo stated, "This ranking has remained almost unchanged over the years. Therefore, a 3-point increase is very rare." The "spouse attractiveness index" comprehensively evaluates factors such as socioeconomic status, appearance, and family background to assess an individual's appeal in the marriage market. Traditionally, the wealthy, doctors, and legal professionals have consistently ranked at the top, with lawyers scoring around 90 points.

While the "spouse attractiveness index" for employees of another chip manufacturer, SK Hynix, has not yet been raised, they have already felt the effects of their rising popularity. Industry insiders note that the success rate of blind dates for SK Hynix employees has increased compared to before. Some have even taken to selling second-hand SK Hynix work uniforms online, claiming that wearing them makes one an "excellent blind date candidate."

Matchmaking company Gayeon commented, "Members frequently mention the boom in the semiconductor industry. More and more people believe that high salaries and substantial bonuses enable employees to achieve a stable life more quickly. Additionally, jobs in the semiconductor industry are relatively less likely to be replaced by artificial intelligence."
