Qianwen President Wu Jia Addresses Viral Success: Our Goal Is Not Competition

Feb 15

On February 15, Wu Jia, President of the C-end Business Group at Qianwen, responded to the platform's sudden surge in popularity. He stated that the original intention behind Qianwen's initiative was not to compete with others, but to integrate AI into the daily life scenarios of ordinary people. "This is something that is bound to happen in the future," he said.

On February 6, following the launch of a major Spring Festival free-order promotion by the Qianwen App, owned by Alibaba, the platform quickly broke into the mainstream and became an overnight sensation. It received over 10 million orders within 9 hours, leading to system limitations that temporarily prevented users from placing orders. On February 14, Qianwen initiated a second wave of free-order activities, pushing the AI competition to a new peak.

Wu Jia explained that the first wave of activities served as a capability test, verifying whether AI could successfully execute the complete process of "understanding, decision-making, ordering, and payment" in real-life scenarios. The second wave, however, fully integrated the entire Alibaba ecosystem. This includes flight and hotel bookings, train tickets, and attraction passes from Fliggy, movie tickets from Damai, as well as upcoming integrations like group purchases and ride-hailing from Amap—all accessible within Qianwen. "AI is evolving from a chatting tool into an assistant that can get things done," he noted.
