On October 9, 2025, HK & China Gas Company Limited (hereinafter referred to as "HK & China Gas") and Linde HKO Limited officially signed a strategic cooperation memorandum today. Both parties will engage in comprehensive collaboration around hydrogen production, compression storage, and terminal distribution to jointly build Hong Kong's first localized hydrogen supply chain network covering upstream and midstream operations. This milestone marks a crucial step forward for Hong Kong in achieving its Hong Kong Hydrogen Development Strategy and 2050 carbon neutrality objectives.

Localized Supply Chain: Full-Process Implementation from Production to Application

According to the agreement, HK & China Gas will leverage its hydrogen-rich town gas resources from the Tai Po Gas Production Plant and the biomass gas conversion project at the Tseung Kwan O Landfill (expected to commence operations in 2026) to provide a stable daily supply of 2 tonnes of hydrogen, with potential capacity expansion to 34 tonnes in the future. Linde HKO will utilize its professional expertise in industrial gas compression, storage, and distribution to efficiently transport hydrogen to downstream applications including construction sites and hydrogen refueling stations through advanced technology.

The core advantage of this collaboration lies in its complete localization: hydrogen production, purification, compression, storage, and terminal applications are all completed within Hong Kong, significantly reducing carbon emissions and costs associated with long-distance transportation. Mr. Cheng Siu Kwong, Chief Operating Officer of HK & China Gas, stated: "This collaboration not only meets local construction sites' demand for clean energy but also establishes a foundation for large-scale hydrogen applications in the future."

Driving Green Transformation: Responding to Policy and Market Demands

In the initial phase of cooperation, the daily hydrogen supply can meet the basic requirements of 14 local construction sites, with plans to gradually expand into transportation, energy storage, and other sectors. Mr. Liu Cheuk Man, General Manager of Linde HKO, emphasized: "This collaboration represents an important milestone in hydrogen popularization in Hong Kong, and we will fully support Hong Kong's transition toward a zero-carbon society."

This cooperation also actively responds to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government's "Climate Action Plan 2050," reducing dependence on fossil fuels through a localized hydrogen industrial chain and supporting the achievement of the "net-zero electricity generation" target by 2035.

Future Outlook: Deepening Cooperation and Expanding Application Scenarios

Both parties plan to further explore hydrogen applications in public transportation, distributed energy, and other fields while jointly developing green hydrogen technology. HK & China Gas and Linde HKO will continue to integrate resources, promoting Hong Kong as a commercial demonstration city for hydrogen technology in the Asia-Pacific region.
