Advanced Micro Devices Accelerates Migration to 800 Series: B650 Motherboard Chipset Production Reportedly Halted

Deep News
Aug 20

According to industry channel sources, Advanced Micro Devices has officially notified partners that B650 chipset production has ceased, with motherboard manufacturers no longer able to procure B650 chips. B650 motherboards have now entered the inventory clearance phase.

Industry sources indicate that motherboard manufacturers' B650 inventory clearance plans are expected to conclude by October, while channel market inventory may take longer to clear completely.

Notably, since Advanced Micro Devices' B650, B650E, B850, and X870 motherboard chipsets are all based on a single, fully-featured ASMedia Promontory 21 chip, the discontinuation of B650 does not signify any changes to AM5 platform motherboard supply for consumers. Instead, this move represents Advanced Micro Devices' upstream initiative to drive motherboard platform migration toward the 800 series while popularizing PCIe 5.0 support.
