Hua Medicine-B (02552) saw its shares surge more than 10% in late trading. At the time of writing, the stock was up 10.38% to HK$2.34, with a turnover of HK$14.66 million.

The rally follows the company's announcement on June 30 that its first-in-class drug, the glucokinase activator (GKA) dorzagliatin (marketed in Macau as MYHOMSIS® / Hua Ling Pian®), has received approval for marketing from the Macau Pharmaceutical Administration. The drug is indicated for the treatment of adult type 2 diabetes.

With this approval, the product is now available in mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau, making it the first domestically developed first-in-class diabetes drug approved across the entire Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Dorzagliatin was initially approved by China's National Medical Products Administration in September 2022, was included in the National Reimbursement Drug List in 2024, and received approval in Hong Kong in February 2026.

In a related development, the company announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Hua Medicine Technology (Hong Kong) Limited, is deepening its collaboration with market expansion services provider DKSH Hong Kong. Leveraging DKSH Healthcare's extensive distribution network, professional market expansion capabilities, and end-to-end service model, the partnership aims to support Hua Medicine in achieving efficient market expansion and accelerating the commercialization process for its products in Hong Kong.

Looking ahead, Hua Medicine plans to use Macau as a strategic launchpad to explore registration, filing, and commercialization pathways in Portuguese-speaking countries. This strategy aims to address the significant diabetic population in regions such as Brazil, thereby building a multi-dimensional market coverage network rooted in China and extending to Southeast Asia and Portuguese-speaking nations.
