Recently, in Ying Shang Village, Yuwu Town, Guiding County, Qiannan Prefecture, pepper trees can be seen in every household's front and back yards, as well as on rooftops. The branches sway with luscious green pepper clusters, and the unique fragrance of pepper fills the air as the autumn breeze blows. Ying Shang Village and Ping Fa Village, central to the Yuwu pepper production area, have a long-standing tradition of pepper cultivation, with numerous centennial pepper trees. An adult pepper tree can yield annual profits of over a thousand yuan, prompting the local saying, "Growing pepper trees at home yields higher returns than cultivating one acre of land."

"A pound of fresh pepper can sell for up to 300 yuan," said Yu Qijun, the deputy director of the village committee, who has over 30 thriving pepper trees in his rooftop garden, creating a unique "sky pepper garden." "Not only does it enhance the environment, but it also brings in real income." This year, his pepper tree sales exceeded 30,000 yuan. In Ying Shang Village, 535 households have increased their income by relying on garden-grown peppers, planting over 4,000 trees with a total output value exceeding 12 million yuan.

Residents have innovatively utilized spaces like front and back yards and balconies to create a three-dimensional pepper planting model, effectively generating significant economic benefits from limited garden space. To strengthen the pepper industry, in addition to vigorously developing the specialized courtyard economy, the local area has established three seedling bases of over 10 acres each and created 18 planting bases. The total pepper cultivation area in the town has surpassed 3,000 acres, with an annual production reaching 180,000 kilograms. Simultaneously, Yuwu Town is advancing the pepper industry from simple planting to a full processing and sales chain. Currently, the total output value of the pepper industry in the town has reached 90 million yuan, with an average annual income increase of over 5,500 yuan per household for the growers.
