Expensify, the expense management software firm, announced on June 8th the launch of its Expensify MCP (Model Context Protocol) interface. This new feature enables AI assistants, including ChatGPT, Claude, and Cursor, to securely access and analyze user expense data using natural language. This move represents a significant step in the company's strategy to deeply integrate AI technology into corporate financial workflows.
The MCP interface offers users a standardized method to connect AI agents to their expense data, eliminating the need for CSV exports, custom scripts, or manual integrations. Users can directly pose questions to their AI client, such as "How much did I spend on travel last month?" or "Which expense reports require my approval?". The system will then fetch and deliver answers in real-time directly from the user's Expensify account.
The founder and CEO of Expensify (EXFY) stated, "As software shifts from menus and forms towards conversational interfaces, businesses will expect every product to work seamlessly with AI agents. MCP is rapidly becoming the standard for how AI systems interact with external services, and we want Expensify to be accessible wherever our customers work."
The MCP interface connects via the secure OAuth 2.1 protocol and can handle a wide variety of queries. These include searching for meal expenses over a certain amount, locating hotel receipts, checking approval statuses, summarizing team spending by category, identifying expense entries missing receipts, and generating spending reports for specific clients. Any user with a verified Expensify account can complete the setup process.
According to public data, Expensify currently holds a market capitalization of approximately $110 million, with revenue over the past twelve months reaching $140 million. The company boasts 15 million members globally. It provides expense management, corporate credit cards, and travel services, with a focus on automating tedious financial management tasks through AI technology. Information on setting up the MCP can be found on the company's official website.
