On November 7, TENCENT was honored with the "Outstanding Contribution Award" at the opening ceremony of the World Internet Conference, this time in the "Social Contribution" category. This marks another significant recognition following last year’s "Innovation Breakthrough" award. The award citation highlighted TENCENT’s commitment to its philosophy of "User-Oriented, Tech for Good," leveraging technology to integrate public welfare into daily life and making multidimensional contributions to "Sustainable Social Value Innovation."
Guo Kaitian, Senior Executive Vice President of TENCENT, stated during the award acceptance that "Tech for Good" is not just a slogan but part of the company’s DNA, with innovation and social responsibility being core pursuits. TENCENT aims to collaborate with peers to explore ways technology can better serve humanity.
In 2021, TENCENT underwent its fourth strategic upgrade, incorporating "Promoting Sustainable Social Value Innovation" as a core pillar alongside its Consumer Internet and Industrial Internet businesses. To support this strategy, TENCENT established the Sustainable Social Value (SSV) division, which includes its philanthropic platform and multiple innovation labs focusing on rural revitalization, technological innovation, emergency response, and inclusive healthcare. In fundamental research, TENCENT announced in 2022 a 10-year, RMB 10 billion "New Cornerstone Investigator Program" to support pioneering scientific research. In emergency response, TENCENT partnered with the China Earthquake Networks Center to launch a nationwide WeChat-based earthquake early-warning mini-program, enhancing disaster preparedness. It also developed a digital "on-demand" emergency rescue network, achieving a "5-minute rescue circle" and setting a global benchmark for urban emergency response.
As of October 2025, TENCENT’s philanthropic platform has raised over RMB 36.7 billion, with 1.79 billion user donations supporting more than 138,000 public welfare projects. Since 2015, TENCENT Philanthropy has co-initiated "99 Giving Day," which was upgraded in 2024 to "Long-lasting Charity Festival," becoming one of China’s largest and most influential public welfare campaigns. The initiative has raised over RMB 18.3 billion, engaging more than 24,000 charitable organizations and 67,000 projects.
